Cotton prices receded in Asian markets in September and early October. They followed a sharp decline in New York futures. Cotton yarn prices dropped in India but stayed firm in China and Pakistan. Spinners’ margins widened in China and Pakistan and narrowed in India. Polyester staple fiber prices continued to rise in the first days of October. Tension in the Middle East has boosted crude oil and the whole petrochemical chain. Spinners faced a new rise in raw material costs, which threatened their margins. Most of them managed to raise yarn prices, with better results in India and Pakistan than in China. Cotton prices fell across Asia in September after New York's correction. Indian spinners lowered their yarn prices in response. Chinese yarn prices held, as mills had already cut their operating rates. Pakistan remained firm, although local cotton has now started to fall.
