Virgin polyester staple fiber prices have surged since March under the pressure of crude oil and intermediates. Recycled polyester has not followed. Close virgin re-PSF now trades at a discount to virgin fiber in China, a rare situation as GRS certified fiber usually commands a premium. The discount is attracting new buyers, but weak demand has so far prevented producers from raising prices.
