Cotton and polyester moved in opposite directions in September. Cotton fiber prices fell after the summer rally. Cotton yarn prices started to follow, and India and China made the first cuts. Polyester staple fiber surged with crude oil after new attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. Spinners in South Asia passed this cost on to polyester and blended yarns. In China, weak demand kept yarn prices almost flat.
