Organic cotton prices fell in line with conventional cotton in early October after holding firm in September. The organic premium briefly widened before narrowing again. Organic yarn prices followed fiber down in India, but the yarn premium over conventional yarns slightly rose. Recycled polyester filament yarns rose faster than virgin yarns in September. Producers passed on higher bottle flake costs as the peak season lifted demand for GRS-certified yarns. The discount to virgin POY in China has almost closed and could turn into a premium in the coming weeks. Recycled staple fibers did not enjoy the same support.

Virgin polyester staple fiber prices have surged since March under the pressure of crude oil and intermediates. Recycled polyester has not followed. Close virgin re-PSF now trades at a discount to virgin fiber in China, a rare situation as GRS certified fiber usually commands a premium. The discount is attracting new buyers, but weak demand has so far prevented producers from raising prices.
