Fiber prices are moving in opposite directions in China this month. Polyester staple fiber is surging on the jump in crude oil and intermediate costs, cotton is falling as the new crop arrives, and viscose keeps rising on firm pulp prices. Yarn prices are following none of these moves, so spinning margins are collapsing in polyester and viscose while they start to recover in cotton.

Tight supply in China and firm pulp costs pushed lyocell and modal prices higher across Asia this month, despite weak demand. Modal gained more than lyocell, with a sharp jump in Pakistan. Spinner margins moved in opposite directions in India and Pakistan.
This monthly report tracks lyocell and modal fiber prices in China, India, and Pakistan, alongside lyocell and modal yarn prices in India and Pakistan. The lyocell-viscose spread is calculated to measure the sustainable fiber premium. Yarn-to-fiber spreads are included to assess spinning mill margin trends. ApparelPakistan Apparel Exports in 1st Quarter 2026
Pakistan shipped less apparel in the first quarter but earned more per kilo. Woven garments now bring in more than knitwear, and both the US and Germany bought less.
