No WTO deal on post-quota period

26 November 2004 - Developing countries did not reach an agreement over the textile quota phasing-out when Thursday meeting at WTO's headquarters, in Geneva. China, India and Pakistan even rejected the proposal by Mauritius and others to make a study on post-quoa prospects. Low-cost countries will now seek additional tariff reduction from the EU and the US while requesting financial help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to limit the impact of quota elimination.
