8 May 2008 - The United States will not impose anti-dumping duties on apparel imports from Vietnam in the short term, the U.S. Department of Commerce officially announced this week. Unit prices of Vietnamese apparel monitored by the U.S. administration were not reduced, it said. First 2008 data compiled by EmergingTextiles are confirming this trend. With labor and raw material costs surging in Vietnam, exporters warned they could further raise prices, on the contrary.

Inflation in Asia Could Boost Apparel Prices (Inflation Report)

Sharp Decline in March Sales of U.S. Apparel Chains

14 April 2008 - U.S. retail sales sharply fell in March at a series of apparel chains. Comparable sales were down 18% at Gap's stores, for instance, reflecting lower consumer spending as food and gasoline prices are rising while housing prices are declining. 15 February 2008 - China's apparel exports to the US market may seriously slow down in 2008, as a result of higher production costs, rapidly rising yuan and surging competition from Vietnam while US quotas in most sensitive categories are still maintained until the end of the year. Thailand's Apparel Exports Depressed by Strong Baht (Country Report)

15 January 2008 - US apparel imports from CAFTA-DR countries fell in the third quarter of last year, reflecting rising uncertainties ahead of US quotas' removal. Poor results in cotton knit shirt categories 337 and 338 may indicate some serious threat for Central American countries while US trouser imports from the Dominican Republic dramatically fell in the last two years. Honduras Taking Advantage Of Duty-Free Agreement With The U.S. (Country Report)

19 December 2007 - Honduran apparel exports stopped falling in 2007, thanks to full implementation of the duty-free agreement with the United States. Relaxed rules of origin are offering some support to domestic producers, in addition to a decisive proximity with the US market. Honduras is still protected by US quotas on imports from China, however, and may suffer after they will be removed at th end of 2008.
