No radical change in Global Textile Trade, WTO reports  (SAMPLE)

18 April 2007 - China's textile and clothing sales were not affected by US and EU quotas in 2006, the WTO last week confirmed while releasing its preliminary data on global trade. Major trends in textile trade stayed unchanged to the benefit of poorest Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia and Vietnam. US Duty-Free Access for Bangladesh and Cambodia still far away

20 March 2007 - Under a WTO's agreement, the United States is committed to offer duty-free and quota-free access to the poorest countries, including Bangladesh and Cambodia. U.S. textile industry just requested to exclude from benefits apparel exporters in the two countries. 20 September 2006 - The WTO just praised Bangladesh for its success in the post-quota period, very far from the expected disaster. Liberal policies mixed with sectoral support helped the domestic industry in further developing exports. Vietnam will join WTO with or without US PNTR

14 September 2006 - Vietnam's membership this year to the World Trade Organisation will still go ahead even if US Congress does not vote on Permanent Normal Trade Relations. However, US sourcing of textiles could be affected should PNTR not be granted, the US chamber of Commerce has warned. The business community also fears the US could lose out on market access while textile lobbyists continue to push for safeguard measures. Full Report...

WTO report suggests China impact less than feared

26 July 2006 - China's 2005 impact on global textile and clothing import markets has been greatly exaggerated, suggests an annual report on global trade by the WTO. An existing trend was already in place in the previous years that had boosted exports from China.
