Raw material costs of polyester producers fell in the past weeks in India, with staple fiber prices also declining as a result. Filament prices were mixed with POY prices being reduced while textured yarn prices were raised, thanks to stronger demand from weavers, our India Correspondent reports.
Polyester raw material prices in India have come down, resulting in lower polyester yarn prices too.
This has attracted buyers to the market again.
As production resumes, demand for yarns also picked up.
PTA price in June is down Rs 1,400 a metric ton (-2.9%) in India, compared to the previous month.
MEG has recorded a fall of Rs 1,200, or - 3.9%.
In US$ terms however, PTA prices rose US$ 18 a ton and MEG was up US$ 5 a ton, due to an almost 5% rupee appreciation over the last one month.
With PTA and MEG falling in rupee terms, demand in June has picked up from downward processors and is expected to remain strong in the coming months.
PTA and MEG prices are also expected to remain relatively unchanged at these levels in the next month.
Polyester fibre prices also fell in rupee terms, in line with lower PTA and MEG prices.
PSF prices lost Rs 2-3 a kg in June, even declining 1-2 cents in US$ terms.
Lower raw material prices helped POY producers in reducing their yarn prices in June by Rs 3-6 a kg.
Textured yarn makers are however planning to increase prices by at least Rs 2-3 a kg in the coming days.
Demand for the yarns has picked up significantly, in keeping with expectations of the texturisers.
Production has resumed in most of the weaving units, as power problems are getting sorted out, leading to more normal activity.
The lower yarn prices in the past period has led weavers to begin buying.
Demand is expected to remain strong through July.
Exports have however slowed down.
Textured yarn prices by early June have recorded an increase of Rs 2-5 a kg, with expectations of a further increase of Rs 1-2 a kg in the coming days.
